The “Mighty” Oaks is one of the premier championship golf courses in the state of Florida.  Named by Florida Golf News as one of the top 100 courses in the state (out of over 1,400), this signature course underwent a dramatic $3 million restoration by Fazio Design Inc. in 1998.

The Oaks was one of the first golf courses in Florida to install Tif Eagle Bermuda grass for the greens. Now considered to be the finest grass for greens in Florida ,Tif Eagle makes the Oaks’ putting surfaces smooth and true.

The Oaks has hundreds of beautiful Oak and Palm trees scattered throughout the course. The sparkling water features enhance the ambiance of this one-of-a-kind championship layout. The men and women-friendly design features 5 sets of tees that range in length from 6,910 yards to 4,860 yards.

Originally designed by Tom and George Fazio, two of golf’s finest and most famous architects, the Oaks is a shotmaker’s delight. Below is a brief description of three key holes on this wonderful course:

The 7th hole of the Oaks, one of the shortest par 4s on the course, is a classic Fazio 'Risk-Reward' hole. Conservative players abandon their drivers and hit the club that best finds the generous landing area, leaving a mid-iron approach to the undulating green. More aggressive players seeking a wedge approach will carefully blast a drive that avoids the sparkling lake and sprawling sand bunkers. The lake seasonally rises and offers a stunning backdrop of native, aquatic plants and unique waterfowl.

The 16th hole on the Oaks, the longest par 3 on the course, has determined the outcome of many prestigious tournaments at Palm-Aire. Its beauty is often ignored as players devote their full attention to the challenge of navigating a wood or long iron onto the large but sloping green. Many players find the generous bailout area to the right to be a safer alternative than the deep sand bunker and clear lake, framed with native grasses and plants.

The par 4 18th finishing hole of the Oaks will yield birdies to those who can steer their drives onto the flat parts of the rolling fairway. A left pin position requires an accurate approach, as sand and water lurk just a few feet away. PGA Professional Curt Byum birdied this hole three times on Sunday (once in regulation and twice in the playoff) to win the 1988 Nike South Florida Open.
